Soccer is the world’s game, and our passion for the sport—and the business behind it—fuels our desire to participate in its growth. Soccer is also compelling in its unique ability to unite people from all backgrounds and ages across the globe.
Since acquiring the Chicago Fire FC in 2019, Joe Mansueto has pushed to strengthen the organization at all levels. This holistic approach begins with showcasing a deep roster of exciting talent in the heart of the city, at Soldier Field. It also extends to families with children participating in the team’s junior program and youth academy and the vitality of Major League Soccer overall.
In 2021, Joe Mansueto purchased a second team—FC Lugano, a 115-year-old club from the Italian-speaking portion of Switzerland. The first season under his ownership immediately proved successful, as FC Lugano won the 2021–22 Swiss Cup, their first title in 29 years. With FC Lugano, the Fire now have a partner club where, when permitted, players can move between clubs—from Chicago to Lugano and vice versa. The clubs will support one another and share best practices.
We are proud to uphold the exceptional legacies of the Chicago Fire and FC Lugano as we continue to position both clubs for future success.
As MLS continues to raise its global profile, we also seek opportunities to invest in soccer-related initiatives worldwide that align with our vision of the sport’s potential.
